A successful weekend for the youth teams with all four sides winning. The under 17s faced Ballynahinch on Saturday and came away with 3 valuable points. Castlewellan were under pressure for the 1st 20 mins finding it hard to cope with the long ball tactics from the Ballynahinch side and were fortunate to go in at the break on level terms. On the resumption of the play the town finally got the ball onto the ground and started to play some quite neat football with good interchanges between Matthew Stratton, Decky Gregory and Oisin McKibbin. With15 mins played Castlewellan took the lead after good pressure by Aidan Dornan who crossed for Breannan McComisky to score from close range. This was a good hard fought win by the town with good performances from Micky Cunningham, Conall Corrigan, Joe O’Neill, Rory Burns and Conor Gregory.
The under 15s defeated Patrician 3-1. The town came from behind, scoring through Docherty, Gilmore and Clarke.
The under 13s enjoyed a 5-1 victory over Olympic. In another excellent display the scores came from Darragh Hamilton(2), Ruari McCooey(2) and Ryan Lundy. Ruari’s goal was extra special and might not be bettered all season. Keelan Burns was man of the match in a committed display.
The bambinos defeated neighbours Newcastle 3-0 in another great team effort. Their scorers were Jack McAleenan, Callum McKibben and Ruari McGuinness (on his birthday)! They were well served by Matthew Muldoon, Cathal Caldwell, Adam McAleese and Adam Garland.
The seconds comfortably defeated Rathfriland 7-0, Daniel Morgan scoring four.
They played some great football and if this standard can be maintained they will be in contention for the silverware come the end of the season. Mickey Keown and Luke Toner put in a good shift in midfield.
The thirds went down 2-0 to league newcomers Down Celtic.
Don’t forget that after 26th September only fully paid up members will be eligible to play – no exceptions.
Tote result 18-10-11 no winners.
Next Texas Hold-em will probably be on October 17th, look in the notes next week for confirmation.
