Castlewellan Notes 29-10-12

Unfortunately the firsts left their shooting boots at home on Saturday (see report) but had a good day out nonetheless, I’m sure there is someone I should be reporting on but for the life of me I can’t remember who surprisingly and by the way don’t worry Ruairi your penalties will never be mentioned again! They were saying on Ballykelly’s facebook page that your first penalty is still sailing over Dungiven!
This week it’s Raceview Athletic from Ballymena in the Junior Shield, we can’t slip up this time so get out and support your team.
The thirds went down 3-1 to Castleabbey with Sean Ladd scoring their goal.
The under 17s produced their worst performance of the season going down 4-1 to Kilmore. The lads were 4 down at half time but produced a much improved display in the second period pulling a goal back via man of the match Martin McCourt. Despite constant pressure they couldn’t add to this score. They were served well by Shane Smyth and Chris King.
A strong and performance from the under 15s in Saturday’s local derby. The boys showed no signs of ringrust after their two week lay off and made a strong start to the game. The town built on this and had the better of the first half, but couldn’t break the deadlock although Keelan Burns returning from injury went closest when his effort came off the crossbar and the teams went into the break at 0-0. Newcastle came well into the game in the second half and went ahead when a clever ball through the middle caught the town’s defence flat footed. Castlewellan didn’t let their heads drop though and drew level through Ronan Quinn with five minutes left. Despite creating some good opportunities they couldn’t find a winner.
Tote result 2-3-16 two winners Danny Cassidy and Felix Blaney (how does he do it!) both receive £625 which will no doubt be put to good use. Next week 2 nos £200 3 nos £700
