Castlewellan Notes 8-10-12

The firsts had an easy win in the Shield, big Paddy Keown getting another hatrick. The seconds recorded their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Kilmore Rec seconds Caolan Brogan and Conor Devlin (pictured) getting the goals , I was just looking through my records and this is the first competitive game between these two clubs in almost 35 years. The thirds drew 2-2 against Ardglass thirds with McComisky and McCann on target
The under 17s fell 4-1 to local rivals Newcastle. The town went 1 up through Ryan White and should have been further ahead but Newcastle came back strongly in the second half to secure victory. Best for the town were Marty McCourt, Jake Carville and Ryan White.
The under 12s were defeated 3-2 by Killyleagh, despite the loss it was a much improved performance with Eoin O’Hare get both goals and was unlucky not to get his hatrick with one effort coming off the bar. David Brown, Paul Kearney,Chris Cope and Caolan Murray were best for us.
No reports unfortunately from the under 15s and 13s.
Congratulations to former player and committee man Gavin Corrigan on his big appointment last Sunday, refereeing the All Ireland Ladies final at Croke Park, it’s well deserved Gavin, I hope you were well served by your two umpires Paddy and John and that ‘yohi’ wasn’t too distracted by events at St James Park.
It was nice after my week away in London to come back and watch the town dispose of Rushlight Celtic in the Junior Shield, but I certainly wasn’t expecting to be attacked by one of my own team! Aidy you’ll be hearing from my solicitor!!! Next time I think I’ll stand out in the middle of the road – it will probably be safer!
