Castlewellan keep the pressure on the top teams in the league with this hard fought win away to a much improved Whitehead side.
In truth though it was because of poor finishing and good defending that kept this game in the balance right up until the end.
Castlewellan started strongly moving the ball fast all over the pitch. In terrible conditions Castlewellan still got the ball down and kept possession for large portions of the game. Stretching Whitehead at every opportunity by getting behind their full backs but the final ball continued to let them down and when eventually they did find their man the finishing was poor. Numerous chances came and went in the first half and it wasn’t until 5 mins into the second half that they finally broke the deadlock when Karol Jaroinski volleyed a clearance from a corner into the bottom corner to put Castlewellan in the lead. Again chances came and went following this between hitting post, crossbar and goaline clearances Castlewellan just couldn’t get that second goal to make the game safe. They were nearly made to pay when eventually Whitehead had sustained period of pressure in the last 15mins and only some last ditch defending kept Whitehead out on a couple of occasions. Anyhow Castlewellan held out for the three points. Best for Castlewellan was Colm Flanagan, Donagh Steele, Barry Travers and Conor Stratton.
Goalscorer:- Karol Jarosinski
