The firsts progressed into the semi finals of the Bobby Dalzell (see report) but it wasn’t easy.
The seconds entertained Drumaness reserves and emerged on the right side of a 3-0 scoreline. They got the perfect start when O’Neill and Gilmore created an opening for McComisky who played another one two with O’Neill before finishing to the top corner. With 25 minutes gone the town went further ahead when McComiskey with a nice piece of improvisation backheeled to the net.
Drumaness came out fired up in the second period but found the Castlewellan defence in uncompromising mood, anything that did get through was well collected by town goalkeeper Duffy. Drumaness heads began to drop and it became 3-0 when Thomas Beckett crossed for Barry Travers to steer home. Best for Castlewellan were O’Neill, McComisky and Lawless.
The under 17s went down 3-1 to Ballynagross Shamrocks, the lads had plenty of chances but left their shooting boots at home, Jake Carville was on target for Castlewellan. Josh Stanley and Chris King played well but Micael Rooney was man of the match.
The under 15’s suffered penalty heartache on Saturday morning, losing out after a 5-5 cup classic against Killyleagh. The Town had the better of a game that was a fantastic advertisement for youth football with both teams determined to play football on the ground. The under 15’s twice established strong leads, but to their credit Killyleagh dug deep and scored two late goals to take the game to spot kicks. Ruairi McGuinness followed on from his brace of goals last week with four in this game, Ronan Quinn (pictured) was the Town’s other goalscorer, passing the ball into the bottom corner from outside the box. Despite the result there were an awful lot of positives for Castlewellan to take out of this game and build on in the weeks to come.
The under 13s went down 5-1 on Saturday to a very impressive Rossglass team. The town where very much in the game until the last 5 mins of the 1st half when they conceded 2 quick goals. A few mistakes at the back went punished in the 2nd half with Rossglass racing into a 5-0 lead. The young town boys stuck to their task and battled to the end and where rewarded with a goal from Daniel Cunningham. Plenty to be learned from the game but it was encouraging to see the boys

There was some talk about whether the first’s third goal should go to Liam McKibben or go down as an og but after a hastily arranged meeting of the dubious goals committee of which ‘Yohi Ward’ is the chairman it was decided that it be awarded to liam (I’m sure the Annalong defender doesn’t want it anyway).

While we are on the subject of the tote, not everyone is buying who definitely should be buying – Why not? We can’t go chasing players to buy totes when some of the committee aren’t even buying!! That needs to be sorted right away.
