The first’s got another three points last Saturday against Tollymore but their hosts made it difficult with a workmanlike display.
Stevie Trainor scored after 14 minutes for the town after a Sean Russell cross had evaded the home defence. Two minutes later though it was all square when a terrible defensive header fell to Donal Acton who lashed the ball into the net. The game developed into a midfield battle but Keown and McKibben both went close with decent efforts. Tollymore however had plenty of possession but found Castlewellan’s defence well marshalled and difficult to break down. After 35 minutes an altercation could have resulted in dismissals but the referee decided against it. Moments later though the Tollymore left back did recieve a red card for a reckless tackle. The town went in front again after 38 minutes when Donagh Steele’s shot was deflected home by Paddy Keown.
The second half was pretty similar to the first with Tollymore playing the ball about impressively but Castlewellan looking the more likely to score. Score they did after 65 minutes when Keown engineered enough room for himself on the edge of the area to find the net. With 10 minutes remaining the town’s Daniel Morgan got himself sent off for a poor tackle. Best for Castlewellan were Stratton, Steele and in the second half Nial Toner played well. Tollymore have some decent players and will take points off a lot of teams.
