Three important points for the Town on Saturday (see report). The seconds had no game but the thirds recorded only their second win of the season up at Annalong the scorers were S Mooney(2) and T Beckett.
The under 17s fell 3-0 to local rivals Tollymore, the scoreline wasn’t really a fair reflection of the game as Castlewellan had plenty of possession but defensive lapses cost them dearly, Tollymore were clinical on the break. Ryan White played well but man of the match went to Martin McCourt. 17s Players are reminded that training has been switched to Monday nights at 7pm.
The under 13s had a great result on Saturday morning coming out 5-2 winners against Ballynagross Shamrocks. Castlewellan started much the better of the sides and found themselves 2 up in the first 15 minutes thanks to a quick double from Ethan Aulds (pictured right). There was great work in setting up both goals from Darragh Fitzpatrick who worked tirelessly up front all game. The town got a 3rd just before half time with a solo effort from Daniel Cunningham (pictured left). The town came out in the 2nd half and started where they left of with Shane Burns (pictured middle) getting himself on the scoresheet following great work from Watson and Aulds down the left wing. Daniel Cunningham got his 2nd and Castlewellan’s 5th following another fine individual goal. The town defence were caught napping in the last 10 minutes and conceded 2 sloppy goals which Ballynagross deserved for their persistence. It was a great team performance from the town boys and something to build on for the rest of the season. It was a day when all 13 boys involved gave 100% and was good to see the effort in training is coming into the matches.
