The firsts were the only club team in action over the weekend when they travelled to Ballymena to play All Saints OB. Unfortunately they left their shooting boots at home and fell to a 1-0 defeat. The town had to travel minus star striker Paddy Keown and had the big man been available then no doubt some of the missed opportunities would have hit the net.
A disappointment on Saturday for all the youth teams who arrived down at Downpatrick only to discover that their games were off. Surely this could have been avoided as it must have been patently obvious to everyone that football was a non starter. But no, not a dickie bird from the youth league which would have prevented us and others from travelling and incurring expense that we as a small club can ill afford. They do have ‘Pitch Status’ information on their website but it wasn’t updated last Saturday morning, surely it wouldn’t be too much to ask on such a dismal day to have someone check out the pitches and post updated information and save us all time and money!!!!
The under 13s will be hoping that rising star Darragh Hamilton (pictured top) will be available for Saturday after injuring himself at training on Monday. Also Under 11s captain Jack McCourt (pictured bottom) will be hoping to lead his side to their sixth straight league victory and move ever closer to the top of the table.
The Texas Hold-em on Saturday was a great success with Paul Garland just edging out Zoom in a titanic battle at the final table. Last months winner Kate decided to get some divine inspiration before the game (she takes it very seriously!) but it didn’t do her any good this time. Good to see some new faces there and the word on the street is that ‘Collie’s all in’. Look out in the notes for the next game, which will probably in around a months time.
Word has arrived with me that after their recent golfing holiday in Portugal, Mickey Ward is refusing ever to share a room with Zoom again – initial reports suggested that an odious smell was involved but after further investigations it was revealed that Mickey was having to go home in the evening one hour before Zoom to give himself a chance of falling asleep (such was Zooms snoring) which seems to be a fairly drastic step to have to take. Several remedies were suggested for the problem at the cards on Saturday night (a few of them quite severe) but I fear you won’t find any of them in any medical textbook!
