Castlewellan Notes 23-04-12

The entire league was postponed last Saturday as a mark of respect following the death of Mickey Donnelly. Mickey has been to the forefront of the league’s committee for a long time and his dedication will be sorely missed, the club sends it’s condolences to his family and friends.

The awards night will be on 18th May in Maginns and I have unearthed a photo of our co manager as a 16 year old playing for Drumaness against the town! Look out for it in the programme.

Another date for your diary is the AGM which will be on May 30th in the Community Centre, time to be confirmed. Normally it is the same old faces that show up every year but lads it would be great to see some players support it also and get a better idea of just how much work goes into running the club and how much money it takes to finance each team and to put forward any ideas for the betterment of the club. Bear in mind lads that virtually every game is covered by an official referee nowadays who normally get £40/£50 in fees and expenses added to council fees for the changing rooms/pitches which is over £50 so as they say on American TV ‘You do the math’

We as a club would like to send our best wishes to former player Cahal Keown who isn’t well at the minute, get well soon Cahal. Also we wish a speedy recovery to our very own Paddy Corrigan. Paddy has been a diehard townie for more years than me and both he and the late Jimmy Kelly put in an enormous amount of work keeping the club afloat when times were tough. We wish you well Paddy.
